Lee Roy Selmon blends the advantages of a scholarship to football in his family with community service. First, his relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. The family raised nine kids on an Eufala farm. Two soccer. He is one of the three brothers that played for Oklahoma. Three of them made All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award and the Lombardi award as the nation's best lineman. In the three years that Roy was a starter, Oklahoma won two National Championships. As an National Football Foundation Scholarship-Athlete, Selmon was given an award for his third year in the year 1975. Selmon received his bachelor's diploma in education. Lee Roy spent ten hours every week in volunteer work in his college days. After graduation, he moved to Tampa and played nine seasons for the Buccaneers. He made the All-Pro 3 times. He then began his career. The year 1988 was the first time he worked as an Account Relations Officer for First Florida Bank in Tampa. He was employed by the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as well as the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. So it's not surprising that in 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him one of the nation's top 10 young men. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch taller and weighing the hefty 256 pounds at college when he was player, commanded his team during the season of 1975. In 1993 he was appointed assistant director of the University of South Florida. In 1988, Selmon was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. The same year, he also was a part of his way into the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 presented its Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma presented it.
